Children between the ages of 4 and 14 are welcome to play in our In-town program. Eligible players must turn 4 before July 31st of the soccer year they are registering and older children cannot be 14 before that date. The soccer year starts with the fall season and ends with the spring season. The league is competitive but non-results oriented, meaning scores are not recorded and there are no play-offs. At the end of the spring season we hold our annual Jamboree – a festive event with a free cook-out for all the players, games, entertainment and more. The program runs both fall and spring - 8 weeks each season. Players do not need to play both fall and spring. Games are played on Saturday. There are no weekday practices for the youngest groups - 4 and 5 year olds - although some coaches may decide to have short, half-hour practices for 5 and 6 year olds during the week. It is up to the discretion of the individual coach as to whether they want to practice or not at that age level. Children age 7 and up should expect a one-hour practice during the week. All our coaches are encouraged to attend clinics to learn age-appropriate coaching skills. The league provides t-shirts to each player, as well as end of the season trophies. Children are required to wear shin guards. Soccer cleats are recommended but not mandatory. Soccer socks are highly recommended as they hold the shin guards in place. Parents should bring plenty of fluids to the field for their child. Many of the age groups play coed. Older players are grouped into boys and girls teams if possible. It will depend on the number of children we have sign up. It is very important to register your child on time, as there is a late fee imposed after a certain date, and often teams are full. Please refer to the registration page for more information. Our goal is to have offer soccer to all age-appropriate children in Haverhill. Please see our mission statement for details. |
