Coaching & Volunteering Information

Haverhill PAL Soccer believes that the best way for children to have an enjoyable soccer experience is to have access to well-trained, enthusiastic coaches.  Our coaches should be people who believe that fun and safety are top priorities, while winning results from skill development, learning to make good decisions on the field, and getting lots of touches on the ball. We encourage our coaches to run well-organized, fun-filled practices where lots of games are the norm and lectures and laps are a thing of the past!  To facilitate this, Haverhill PAL Soccer provides numerous training opportunities for new and experienced coaches alike.  The "in-town coach's packet" provides a good overview of the website, policies and our program

Each year, Haverhill PAL Soccer offers training, free of charge, ranging from 2-hour workshops to the more involved MYSA licensing clinics.  We also provide a detailed coaching manual to all coaches, as well as inform coaches of workshops being conducted in surrounding towns.  We urge all coaches to take advantage of these resources, which in turn will enhance player enthusiasm, turn-out at practices and games, skill development and parent participation.

As an added incentive for people to volunteer to coach and for retention of trained, experienced coaches, Haverhill PAL Soccer offers fee waivers for players whose parents have coached for 2 consecutive seasons and have at least 4 hours of age-appropriate training.  When selecting travel coaches we give preference to licensed coaches who have demonstrated a commitment to the game and program, and who have adhered to our Zero Tolerance Policy.

An excellent guide for coaches is the MYSA Statewide Curriculum U6 –U12.  This guide highlights skill priorities and typical characteristics for the various age groups.  It also describes fun games to use in practice which help players develop specific skills for their age group.  You may obtain a copy clicking here.
