Fall 2010 Season Start - 9/11/2010
09-06-2010

The Fall 2010 Season for In-Town & Travel Programs will begin on Saturday, September 11 - weather and field conditions permitting. For families new to soccer, please see the "in-town program" tab on our website for more information.

In-Town rosters were distributed to coaches on September 6. You should hear from your coach in the next few days.

In-Town schedules are not available until Essex County Youth Soccer (ECYSA) completes the Travel Schedules since we have coaches who participate in both leagues. ECYSA just released the travel schedules September 2, so we are working hard to complete the In-Town schedule.  It should be available for the In-Town coaches meeting on September 8.

Inclement Weather Protocol - In-town & Travel Programs
08-01-2010

In general, the In-Town Program inclement weather protocol is to play games as scheduled. The league will cancel all or part of the day's schedule due to lightning, torrential rain, snow, forecasted Nor'Easters/violent weather, or other unsafe field conditions. In-town directors have the discretion to cancel all or any portion of the day based on current conditions at any time. Parents always have the option not to participate.

The Travel Program operates differently.  By 7:00AM each travel director evaluates their home field conditions to make a decision for that day.  If the travel director determines the fields to be safe at that time, then the decision to play or not is made by the referee on a game by game basis.  Field status is available on the ECYSA website for each town field - http://www.essexfields.com/field.php.

Volunteers Needed
08-01-2010

The Haverhill  Parents Athletic League (PAL) organization can always use help for the many small or large jobs to be done throughout the season.  Some helpful areas include:

 1. "Team parent" to distribute league information from the coaches, helping to improve communications, sending emails for your coach, etc.  Please contact your child's coach to see where she/he could use help.

2.  Offering to help your coach on the side-lines with our youngest players (U5 and U6) - while the coach is on the field instructing, it can be helpful for another parent to get the next group of 4 or 5 children ready to go into the game at the next change-over. Please contact your child's coach to see if she/he could use help.

3.  Painting the lines on one or more of the fields at St. James  School  ( 1 large, 2 medium, 3 small)  Consentino School (2 fields) or the one at Bradford Elementary (takes less than an hour per week to paint a field);  Please contact Al Barney for our In-Town Fields at St.James or Mike Cryan for Travel Program fields: Consentino and Bradford Elementary.

4. Organization of teams / crowd control on Photo Day. Please contact Al Barney.

5. Board of Directors positions:  In order to keep the league operating in the future, it is important that we continue to attract new volunteers to the Board for succession planning purposes.  While not all Board members hold an "office" position, they do perform important tasks throuhout the year, and help to fill resource gaps where needed.  Over time, many choose to run for an office (Treasurer, Secretary, Vice-President or President).   Please contact any Board member for consideration on next year's board if you have an interest in supporting our mission for the children of Haverhill for future years.   The quality of your program is directly linked to the skills, dedication and number of volunteers.

Please consider volunteering some of your time - a little can help a lot!   Please contact any Board of Director Member or coach in person or via email to offer your assistance. Board of Director email addresses are shown as links on the Board of Directors tab.  THANK YOU!

Sponsorships
08-01-2010

Haverhill PAL (Parents Athletic League) Soccer, a 501c3 organization, is pleased to announce that we are now accepting sponsors for our upcoming seasons.

Haverhill PAL organizes and maintains a complete soccer program for the boys and girls of the Haverhill area. Players of all skill levels between the ages of four and fourteen are included. The league has been promoting and organizing recreational soccer in the city for almost 50 years. Approximately 850 children participate in our leagues each fall and each spring season.

Any contribution is greatly appreciated. However, for a donation of $250.00 for a single season or $400.00 for a full year, your organization can become an official sponsor aiding us in funding our mission to bring quality soccer and sportsmanship to the children of the Haverhill community. Sponsorship will add your organization’s name to a full list of sponsors to be printed on the back of every in-town soccer jersey worn by every child for every game all season long and recognition on our web site (www.haverhillpal.org) The money raised through sponsorship will help fund new equipment, field improvements, new coach training and continued player development at each age and ability level. Please help us to continue to bring fun, energy, exercise, and sportsmanship to the children of Haverhill PAL Soccer.

If you would like more details on our sponsorship program please feel free to get in touch with:

Attitudes are Contagious !
09-06-2007
Mass Youth Soccer has developed and produced an outstanding video focusing on the issues of sideline behavior of adults, and specifically on how that behavior is affecting the retention of qualified referees. While many have talked about the issue of adult sideline behavior, Mass Youth is the only organization to turn the talk into a valuable tool that teams, towns, clubs and leagues can put into immediate use to help curb unwanted noise along the sidelines. Click here to view this short video. Or, go to our "References & Soccer links" tab, look under  the "Players" section to find the "Attitudes are Contagious" topic.
